very rare set of 3 art brut masks, in freehand painted terracotta and dated 1953.
meani often created sculptures based on broken dishes and everyday objects, but finding terracotta shaped by her hands and painted with oil after firing is very complicated.
his works are rare on the art market, a museum in lausanne dedicates a permanent exhibition to him.
these works are in superb condition, no alteration of the paint colors, the klein blue of the eyes is particularly striking and the yellows and reds punchy. Very good dimensions for these rare collector's items.
height for the largest: 46cm,
width: 20.5cm and
thickness: 13.5cm.
biography angelo meani was born in milan, italy, where his parents owned a marble workshop. He learned the trade very quickly: he cut marble and modeled small statues in clay.
later, he apprenticed as a carver in a foundry and obtained a sculptor's diploma. Angelo meani then shaped cemetery bas-reliefs and restored sculptures in the duomo of milan. But he feels cramped in the academic world.
he then begins to collect broken dishes, as well as all kinds of everyday objects which he assembles, creating funny masks.
from then on, he devoted himself exclusively to his creative activity, collecting batches of broken crockery that department stores made available to him to make colorful masks. This piece has an attribution mark,
