A thrilling oil on canvas painting of jockeys in full motion, where you can almost feel the rush of wind as the horses race by. This action-packed and colorful piece is signed in the left corner by giacomo varese (1815-1892) and vividly captures the energy and intensity of the scene. It is presented in its original giltwood frame.
varese, primarily known as a landscape painter, showcases a different style in this work. The looser brushstrokes suggest it may have been created later in his career. A student of michele canzio, varese became a member of the ligurian academy in 1838.
