At some point, it was painted over and now has remnants of the old paint and the original raw Sienna glaze showing through. It has great applied decoration, including a central coat arms under the name, clusters of grapes above, knights on horseback on both sides and more. An old cork is a stopper on the lid and in the bottom is another cork plug that once held a spigot. The crock has a few chips along the top rim but given its age, circa 1850, it is in remarkably good condition and with its decoration, makes an impressive statement. less
