Very beautiful set composed of a Mazarin-style desk and a study. These walnut pieces of furniture are richly carved, gilded and painted in the Italian Renaissance style.
The desk has a framed top with a molded gilded surround. In the center, this desk features original wine red leather with gold vignette. On the left side, a sliding shelf allows you to enlarge the work surface. The edge of the desk is equipped with three drawers carved in relief with foliage and arabesques. The fronts are knockout and gold moldings follow the outline of the drawers. On the sides, we also observe higher drawers whose different front is sculpted in relief of arabesques on a granite background and surrounded by painted moldings. This configuration of drawers recalls the spirit of Mazarin desks, also through the legs joined by an On each side, the four legs have animated spacers supporting an openwork frame with painted scrolls to the most beautiful effect. The feet end in golden lion paws.
The carved and painted walnut work cabinet is composed of four doors, an open space and drawers. The central doors are made of wine-colored recessed sheet metal, painted with putti, they are covered with a cracked varnish and surrounded by moldings. The lock and its chiseled key are functional. On each side, this piece of furniture has taller and narrower doors. They are made up of panels carved in relief and painted with arabesques and volutes. In the lower part, this cabinet has drawers with molded knockout front and wooden pull button. This piece of furniture rests on eight legs. The front legs end in golden lion paws. The uprights are sculpted with rosettes and decorated with grotesque faces in the upper part. The molded and painted cornice is topped with slender tops and a wooden element painted with a foliage frieze.
