Sir Charles Holroyd (English 1861 – 1917) antique 19th century pencil drawing of a nude male torso. Attribution verso - Rome 1888. Presented in a French mat and gilt wood frame. Sketched on old wove paper in an accomplished hand. Measures 14 1/4" x 10 5/8" framed.
Holroyd was an English painter, original printmaker and curator during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras up to and including the First World War. He was Keeper of the Tate from 1897 to 1906, Director of the National Gallery from 1906 to 1916 and Assessor of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers & Engravers (now Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) from 1902 to 1917.
