Sedman's original charcoal or graphite illustration, titled "Berlin Wall". Original gallery sticker on back from Braintree, Massachusetts. Signed at the bottom with the lithograph number (3/4), the title, as well as the artists name and year printed (1990). This lithographed is framed and behind glass- condition is like new, despite being a 35 year old print. It's signed from 1990, one year after the Berlin Wall fell. The Berlin Wall - also referred to as the "iron curtain" - was a historical event preceded by half a million protestors seeking the end to a divided Germany, and a reunification for the country that had been divided by the soviet union- forcing oppressive limits on travel to and from the country for it's people. Once the restrictions were lifted, the Germans tackled and destroyed the wall in crowds- bringing with them hammers and other means of literally destructing this oppressive divider. The child looking at the older man on the other side was a very specific choice by the artist, interpretable in different ways - but undeniably connected to this historic moment. See less
