History:
"George Ernest Bingham is an eminent artist the of the Pacific Northwest. His work is well known there and spans many decades. Born in 1884 in Worcester, Massachusetts he moved to Portland, Oregon as a child. While a teenager he was noticed for his talented sketches and was sent to study in New York for two years under famous Portraitists {1904-1906} Back in Portland, he married and taught at the Portland Art Museum for several years. He was particularly celebrated for his teaching of sketching and form {1908-1910} A distinguished artist, his talent and success allowed him to freelance all his life. He used all available mediums doing sketches, cartoons for newspapers, illustrations and drawings. He was however most famous for his portraits and landscapes. Concurrently he worked as the resident commercial artist for Rann Co a famous billboard firm and also created all the window designs for Meir and Frank in Oregon. Prominent enough to live from his art, he nevertheless delighted in enrolling at expos and fairs where he gained instant recognition for drawing exquisite portraits on the spot. He died in 1957 in Portland where he had established a sizeable following of eclectic patrons. It has been noted the Portland Museum was planning a display of his work. "
