Antique early 19th century inlay marquetry wood jewelry box, with steel decoration.
The box will have been made during the Palais Royal period in the early part of the 19th century. The veneer has been laid to show visual contrast in the design. Applied steel decoration on the edges has had ded to decorative effect, as does the central steel handle. The box seats on bun feet, and the hinges are original. The inside is lined with silk shantung, silk trims, and decorative studs.
The wood patina is beautiful, the steel has been tarnished with age.
