A 1932 signed lithograph from noted Texas artist Helen Ferne Slimp, which depicts Santa Fe Hollyhocks in bloom. This piece measures 25 x 19 inches and comes in the frame which is pictured. This piece was acquired at the estate of a woman in Comfort, Texas who had a large collection of early Texas artists. It was like time travelling through the Texas art scene.
Helen Ferne Slimp was born in Richmond, Virginia, moved to San Antonio in 1920. She worked and studied in Colorado, California, and New Mexico and was later named Witte Museum Artist of the Year in 1955. Slimp's instructors were a "Who's Who" of American artists including Randall Davey, Ernest Lawson, Fremont Ellis, Gerald Cassidy, Harry Anthony De Young, and Jose Arpa. She exhibited throughout the 1930s-50s at prestigious Texas annual shows. Her work is in the collections of the Witte Museum and the McNay Museum of Art, among others.
