Her head leaning softly almost touching her knee. These dynamics unified within the rectangle create a tension that gives life to the image.

Looking at the painting upside down one can more easily understand the structure of the painting - how it's put together and why. The variety of blues both behind and in front of her create a spatial tension in space. The blue colors are complementary to the oranges of the figure and with a touch of blues within them connect the viewer's eye back to the figure. The goal is to keep the painting active and dynamic but unified.

Though unintended, to me the image has a touch of the feeling of a Gauguin. Tropical and fleshy.
