This Really is a Great Looking, Quite Rare & Unusual Small 1/2 Gallon Size Authentic Antique American Primitive Blue Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Approx 1850s It is Not Signed by the Maker but I Believe that it was Mostly Produced in Pennsylvania or New York. It has a Classic American Salt Glazed Exterior. It Also has the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". The Front of the Jar is Hand Decorated with a Large Beautiful Deep Blue Color Stylized Flower Design. The Interior Glaze is done in a Dark Brown - Oxblood Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. This Jar Style was Commonly Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Foods. It is in Very Good All Original Condition. It is Strong and Sound - Displays Beautifully!. Imperfections Noted - It has a Old Very Tight Hairline Crack Extending done From the Top Rim - Front Area and a Very Faint Hairline Extending Down from the Top Rim - Back Side. It also has a Few Very Small Age and use Related Chips at the Top Rim Inner Perimeter. There is a Small Glaze Imperfection Spot at the Base Rim Perimeter but these are a Quite Common Type of Kiln Flaw and Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and Many Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common in American Stoneware.
