One of his early successes was the ‘Smoke’ collection which came amongst an absolute global frenzy for collectible design in the early 2000s. In questioning the excesses of highly produced and very expensive design, the irreverent Baas created a truly artistic and timeless expression while literally burning down the paradigm of his time.

Each piece in the Smoke collection is finished with fire allowing the beauty and character of the burned wood to resonate. For this reason, each piece is unique. The extensive production process allows the organic process of the flames to shape the wood, also creating lasting stability.
