The pottery is divided into two categories: Joyachi, the mainstream fired at 1200 degrees centigrade with various glazes like Shirokasu, and Arayachi or Nanban-yaki, fired at around 1000 degrees centigrade without glazing, producing larger, dynamic items like sake pots. The distinctive techniques, firing temperatures, and locally sourced clay contribute to the weightiness and warmth of Tsuboya-yaki.

The form of the dachibin flask was developed for Okinawan farmers as they worked; fitting snuggly on the hip, ideally paired with a leather shoulder strap tied to the lugs, filled with strong awamori sake. This flask is unique for it's Lion Dog (Shisa) lugs and colourful all-over brush decoration. A very good piece. less
