Functional and beautiful, this late Edo-period (1615-1868) bottle is decorated with a dark black iron glaze and white straw-ash glaze, which combine around the shoulder to create lovely blue kiln effects. This combination of glazes is typical of wares found in Kyushu. Accentuating the body is a constellation of iron-laden ishihaze (stone-bursts). Lip is chipped in places, and appears to have been repaired with stoneware clay in one section. less
