Made with hand-knotted wool and originating from Morocco, this square 4x4 Moroccan rug by Rug & Kilim represents an exciting new line of contemporary tribal rugs. Its design represents some of the most devoted nomadic weavers in rural Morocco today, both keeping a rich tradition alive and helping it to flourish with new possibilities today.
On the Design:
A play of beige-brown, blue and cream white tones underscores a minimalist series of geometric patterns, in which keen eyes may note a subtle inspiration from antique Art Deco rugs—the scale and deftness of which couldn't be achieved in traditional Moroccan rugs. The sense of dimension in these 1920s-style patterns sits beautifully in the lush, liveable primitivist style like never before, representing a marriage of modernist and primitivist sensibility in unprecedented, yet complementary fashion that captures the best of both. Each work in this collection is handmade by some of the most devoted nomadic weavers in rural Morocco, both keeping a rich tradition alive and helping it to flourish with new possibilities today.
This square rug’s versatile size further lends to vast possibilities, both in small spaces and flooring projects calling for accent rugs as well as wall-hanging projects welcoming a brilliant work of modern folk art. less
