Charles and Ray Eames designed the armchair in 1958 for the private residence of industrialist J. Irwin Miller. Produced in the 1990s by the legendary Vitra factory in Germany. When constructing the seat, the design pair moved away from the principle of a seat shell, instead stretching a fabric or leather panel between two aluminum stringers to create a taut but flexible seat.
