very fine cast and patina, weakness of the rivet holding the rifle to the hunter's shoulder.

a prolific artist, pierre jules mêne 1810-1879, established himself as one of france's leading animal sculptors of the 19th century. From 1838, he took part in the paris salon; he set up his own foundry and began to cast and chisel his works himself. His taste for animal sculpture, but above all the quality of his work, made him a great success.
