Ribbon holders have been repainted gold at some point in their journey to my door, I suspect a long time ago, but I don't think it's original. Otherwise doors open and close smoothly, functions well. This antique turn of the century oak ribbon cabinet display cabinet was manufactured for George E. Allison of 313 Main St, St. Louis, Missouri in the 1890s. He was the proprietor of Excelsior Case Works. In addition to being an excellent ribbon storage or sewing cabinet, it makes a great wine storage rack.
• measures approx 25.75” at widest (base) x 22.75” deep x 36” high
• oak with original finish
• freestanding opening on both sides
• base and top moldings are beveled
• formerly used in a counter top store display
• 8 compartments with cradle like attachments which formerly displayed ribbon spools on a store counter
• all compartments function well roll and drop forward and fold back in place
The case has 3 vertical glass panels on each side and glass doors on the front and back, one glass has a break (pictured); has 20 checking total spindled racks for displaying ribbon spools. In original antique condition, not refinished. At some point it looks like someone painted the cradles gold, each cradle is approx 22” long
