'Saint In Red' etching on paper, Marian Korn (1914–1987). Edition 5/15, Japan, 1976. The original gallery sticker is still on the back, assumed early 80s.
Marian Korn was a Czechoslovakian born American printmaker, who lived and worked in Japan. Her prints range in subject – lighthearted figural designs to more introspective abstraction. In 1949, she and her husband moved to Tokyo to work on postwar redevelopment. She began actively producing prints in the 1970s and remained active through the 1980s, focusing on more typical Japanese imagery as well as more abstract subjects. Her catalogue raisonné totals 206 prints, and the Honolulu Museum of Art, the National Museum of Art of Romania, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, and the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art are among the public collections holding her prints.
