It is a thick, handmade plaster finish called the Giacometti finish, used by Diego and Alberto on some of their works.
I added hand-applied gold leaf inside the shades to create a warm contrast for the chandelier.
Finding the right technical solutions for a rotating chandelier with movable parts was challenging, but the result is impressive.

This plaster spatulated work is characteristic of the brutalism period, which emphasized that artists and architects should not embellish construction materials with finishes or coverings. Instead, they were encouraged to creatively use the raw materials in their natural state. less
