This is 1980's Italian made Mottahedeh tobacco leaf baluster temple Jar / Ginger Jar. It is in perfect vintage condition. There were produced by Lowestoft for Mottahedeh. This is hand painted in over 20 colors like sapphire blue, coral, pink rose, light green, yellow, and gold! The jar is lidded with a little lid with a fantastic gold lamb finial. The jar is 18 inches high and about 7 inches wide.
Tobacco Leaf, one of the most prized of Chinese Export patterns, was developed circa 1780, probably for the Portuguese and Brazilian markets - though examples have also been found in other European countries and in North America. The design shows the leaves of the flowering Nicotiana (Tobacco) plant with a small phoenix perching.
