Vintage blue and white paper placemats by Danish artist and designer, Bjorn Wiinblad (1919-2006). Wiinblad is best known for his ceramics which often feature whimsical figures in naturalistic settings. Indeed, this set of 15 placemats produced by Contempo features a festooned figure accented with flowers and floral plumes. The geometric border has an organic look and provides the perfect oval frame for dinnerware. Printed on quality linen paper, the placemats were no doubt designed to be disposable but consider laminating them for indefinite reuse.
There is some subtle age related yellowing to the edges of the mats with 14 in very good condition and one with darker yellowing on an edge as shown in photograph 10. According to the Contempo label, the set originally was made in a quantity of 20 though there are only 15 remaining.
Each placemat measures 11" tall x 17" wide. less
