Artist Frank Howell was born in Sioux City, Iowa,, in 1937.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa, did graduate work at the University of Northern Iowa and at the University of Iowa, and studied at the Chicago Art Institute. Howell is a self-taught artist.He has been drawing since he was a young child and painting for over thirty years. Whether he is painting an Indian face or a landscape, his lyrical interpretations employ a visual representation of the wind as it sweeps across time -past, present, and future.Howell views these images as universal symbols, a kind of visual mythology.
