A fine 20th Century Guatemalan Tzute in vibrant color traditionally used as a Head or Neck cloth as well as a Ceremonial wrap for ceremonies and also to carry an infant. Tzute is a Mayan term and they are hand-woven on back strap looms. this piece in a fine and deep Red with Black pin stripes is woven from Cotton with Silk Brocades in stylized Bird motif with a Pale Violet tone. Running down the center is a band known as a Randa in multicolored Silks which divides the Tzute. The corners feature traditional dyed Cotton Tassels.
The Tzute has been custom mounted on a contrasting Khaki background and housed in a Museum style Black custom acrylic covered Frame.
Dimensions: 32.75"wide by 34" high by 2.5" deep.
Condition: The Tzute is in very good original condition and was likely framed shortly after being acquired. The frame has minor acceptable wear that does not detract from the particularly fine Native American style presentation. less
