Slim and tall, ornately carved giltwood beveled Trumeau mirror with a 1780s oval portrait lithograph print of a little girl titled "Age of Innocence" by English artist Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), under original wavy glass, c. late 19th century. The frame features intricate relief carvings of floral and foliate motifs with swag detail. Embracing lots of old world charm and sophistication with a slender form, the mirror may be incorporated into any room without requiring much wall space. It is in good condition as the gilt has retained its brilliance while having age-appropriate, faint hairline cracks to the gold and some light foxing to the mirror adding nice character.
Reynolds was one of the major European painters of the 18th century and knighted by George III in 1769. This work was originally titled by the artist "A Little Girl" and renamed "Age of Innocence" after his death. The original painting was presented to the National Gallery in 1847 and has hung in the Tate Britain since 1951. less
