Vintage: C.1935-50's, era, Italian sophisticated, silk crepe and hand-forged, sterling silver handled umbrella, with an adorned black tassel. The pointed ends which ensconces the frame of the umbrella are brass tipped, with metal armature inset, with each section covered in the same silk as some close-ups indicate, mechanism to open and close are in working order. The silk body/or open dome portion, has maker's markings along the outer edging of the silk, staggered throughout the edging of entire perimeter surround with Maker's marking of silk, called "Piumetta," as one of the close-up images, indicates. Smacks of something The House of Fortuny would have introduced within that era; known for their distinctive upscaled pieces, beyond their textile line, which is much coveted, then and currently so, with that tradition, quality of craftsmanship and material, during a gentile time within Europe, and abroad, it would aspire to encompass decorative and utilitarian objects for the well-endowed class, or whomever could afford such luxuries of sorts, be it for a gentleman's Gentleman, and/or a Female. This is a wonderful example of such craftsmanship given to everyday essential trappings. Silver Grade markings along the end of handle towards the neck and whereupon Tassel lie... As image indicates a 998, hand-forged onto handle, of a ( sterling mark of quality, usually given to a higher Grade, and/or caliber of silver, which in this era this portion was usually made in Italy or Forged in Germany, after and upon research, BUT of high distinctive quality. One can see closely the actual knotching within the silver of the silversmith's tools and trade with the textural aspects given, including the geometric, hexagonal repeat pattern given t the column of the handle.

Cancellations
