Art Nouveau, in fact, began as a rebellion against the industrial revolution of the late 19th century. The fine arts, architecture, and applied arts were characterized by sinuous and elegant forms. The presence of stylized elements, borrowed from the natural world, contrasted with strong colors, unusual and extravagant shape choices, and the absence of symmetry and proportion.
