Fabulous aquatint etching by celebrated contemporary artist, John Maxon. The nearly four foot wide image is a broad field of sky blue with dynamic earthy strokes situated at the horizon. “Hi Rider” is abstract and open to interpretation. Maxon typically paints landscapes and waterways. It’s quite obscure whether this is a shoreline, or vista of distant mountains across a plain. The narrative absence allows the viewer to fully immerse in this sublime vision, enveloped in soothing blue skies. The serene field represents endless possibilities. The bright blue skies evoke a sense of hope and wonder. The limited aquatint etching has an ethereal watercolor quality. The piece is pencil signed, titled, and numbered. The piece is ready to hang and comes as pictured in a chic gold frame with acrylic pane. Vintage 1985, titled “Hi Rider.” Nineteen-Laties pastel palette.
Aquatint, a variety of etching widely used by printmakers to achieve a broad range of tonal values. The process is called aquatint because finished prints often resemble watercolour drawings or wash drawings.
