Trained as an art historian, Marlou Pulles has turned her fascination for art into still-life photography. With her photography she wants to capture stillness, elegance and pure forms, wrapped in compositions that evoke wondering and radiate slowness. By stimulating the viewer trough the play of color, shape and a minimum of visual language, she draws attention to looking at everyday objects with different eyes. She chooses objects that our hectic society does not always consider how beautiful they can be.
This work is inspired by Jan Mankes (1889-1920), one of the most tranquil Dutch painters. His work is so delicate, soft, and balanced.
This old elegant vase gets its place in the spotlight. The soft use of light and simple composition bring out the beauty of the subject and give the image a certain calmness.
The elegant everydayness in her works deserve to be looked at with care. The stilllifes create a dynamic slowness, where the balanced compositions give room to reflect on the beauty of everyday life.
'My little green vase' is printed on Hahnemuhle Photorag paper, 99 % cotton.
It is part of a Limited Edition, 3#10.
The photograph is 50x50cm, with a white border of 2 cm. It is signed in the border.
