19th c., France, a pair of Louis XVI style gilt bronze candelabra. The upwardly tapering and chiseled column support rises from a square base. The column is surmounted by two candle cups issuing from arms decorated with fauna. The column is topped with the form of a flaming torch. The candle cups are decorated with swags. Both candelabra are unmarked.
This is an unusual pair of gilt bronze candelabra particularly given the shape and nature of the central column. The overall combination of decorative elements results in a visually appealing pair of candelabra.
