Rare masterpiece 19th century Aesthetic Movement inlaid burl wood clock by cabinet maker Alexander Buell Griffin, 1819-1901 from Ravenna, Ohio.
Griffin started as a cabinet maker and became a prominent figure in Ravenna eventually holding public offices including Mayor. The Griffin house in Ravenna is on the national historic register.
**This particular clock was hand made by Griffin as a present to his wife on her 60th birthday which occurred on Nov. 16, 1880 (as stated on the plaque at the base). The workmanship on the clock case is extraordinary and includes the finest burled walnut, satinwood, mahogany, and ebony.
The door is currently locked. There is no key or pendulum but the original works appear to be intact.
A great collectors time piece - one of a kind.
