This vintage chair exudes a timeless elegance and dates back to the 1920s. Made from beech wood and stained in a deep black tone, it will add character and style to any room. The frame made of solid walnut and the seat made of Viennese wicker demonstrate the highest level of craftsmanship. The inlay work on the backrest gives this chair a special sophistication.
This piece comes from the famous Viennese bentwood factory "Jacob & Josef Kohn". The original stamps from Jacob & Josef Kohn from Austria are still present under the seats.
Jacob Kohn (1791-1868) and his son Josef Kohn (1818-1884) founded a company (known as J. & J. Kohn) in Vienna (Vienna), Austria, in 1849 that manufactured wooden parts for buildings. Around 1867, the company began producing furniture and opened factories in many cities. In 1914, the company merged with Mundus, a holding company in Vienna, and became Kohn-Mundus. Kohn-Mundus merged with Thonet in 1922. The world-famous furniture manufacturers Jacob and Josef Kohn are now represented in the Musuem of Modern Art and the Disseny Hub Barcelona.
