Hand-knotted in a luxurious all-silk construction circa 1920-1930, this 3x5 antique Persian rug of Qum provenance is an exciting new curation from our classics—a rare and regal piece, exemplary of silk Qum rugs and tapestries for both its quality and its range of colors.
On the Design:
Admirers of the craft would most likely know this as a vase rug—a term often used both for the elaborate rugs with a pictorial of a vase under such detailed floral patterns like those seen in the field. Therein, a warm orange and salmon tone field underscores floral patterns in the arabesque style, teeming with the detailed curves and keen attention to color variation many masterpieces of this provenance are known for in our field. The border surrounding has a black undertone, which underscores a floral scroll with palmettes in similar gold, beige-brown, and red hues like those among the most present of the many colors at play in this vivid work.
