Although he is relatively discreet and less known than other Swiss artists, he is distinguished by his work in watercolor, a medium which requires subtle mastery of light, colors and water. His style is often described as figurative, with a predilection for landscapes and urban scenes. Zwahlen was able to capture the essence of Swiss landscapes, with particular attention to atmospheric variations and natural light.
