Colmo Giovanni:
after attending classical high school, he enrolled in the "Application School for Engineers", graduating in Civil Engineering in 1891. This allowed him to be hired by the municipality of Turin and to join the technical offices, where he then carried out his his job for thirty-two years, retiring in 1923 with the rank of Division Chief. The young Colmo, gifted with artistic talent, developed his friendships in the environment of the same name and in his free time from those years onwards, he initially joined timidly and then more and more independently in groups headed by Delleani, Tavernier, Follini, Avondo, Cavalleri and Giani, scrutinizing and assimilating their secrets and managing in the following years to merge their styles and ideals. The beginning of his pictorial activity dates back to 1890 but it was in 1896 that he exhibited his first work to the public at the Società Promotrice delle Belle Arti in Turin where he had enrolled that year at the same time as the Circolo degli Artisti and where he was assiduous exhibitor for thirty-five years. In 1902 Giovanni Colmo was present at the Turin Quadrennial. In 1923, at the age of fifty-seven, his working relationship with the Municipality of Turin ended and Giovanni was able to dedicate himself entirely to painting. In 1926, the first Provincial Art Exhibition was held in Cuneo.
