The Locus Solus series was designed by Gae Aulenti in 1964 and produced by Poltronova (this series also includes an armchair, a floor lamp, and a bench) they're originally realized as garden furniture for external use.
For this series, Gae Aulenti was inspired by the Locus Solus novel by Raymond Roussel and by her own Sgarsul chairs and created a collection that parodies the typical tubular furniture of the 1960s.

The Locus Solus collection also was shown in the 1969 movie, entitled La Piscina directed by Jacques Deray.
