A striking image from the 1960s capturing two horseback riders overlooking the expansive desert landscape of Big Bend National Park, Texas. The riders, dressed in traditional Western attire, pause at a vantage point as one of them points towards the vast horizon. The rugged terrain and distant mountain ranges create a dramatic backdrop, emphasizing the sense of adventure and the untamed beauty of the American Southwest. This black and white photograph encapsulates the spirit of exploration and the timeless allure of the cowboy lifestyle. The street is muddy and appears to have been recently rained on, creating a somber atmosphere. To the left, there is a restaurant with a sign reading "Jeanne d'Arc," and in the background, you can see a few other pedestrians going about their day, despite the gloomy and difficult times of war. The mist adds to the melancholy, evoking a sense of life continuing under the shadow of the ongoing conflict. Andres was born 1905 in Germany and passed away 1992. He started his career as a photographer in 1920. He was one of the first photographers, who used a Leica. His images today are displayed in several museums, for example in the Civil War Museum in Salamanca, Spain, the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Industrial Museum in Oberhausen, Germany. Andres was a contributor for Edward Steichens Exhibition "The family of man" at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
