Swedish mora grandfather clocks are identified by their gentle curves and classic style as seen in this exceptional longcase clock.
The rounded body, base and floral carved embellishments with date of 1814 around the face create visual balance while this 7.5' tall clock rests on tapered feet.
It is the exceptional original hand-painted finish that makes this Mora grandfather clock a special find. Many clocks from this era were painted over multiple times and passed down generations through families. It is always exciting to find one with truly original paint such as this one.
Blue panels, delicate floral details, and date of 1814 all rest against a black background. In some lights, lower section almost appears a dark midnight blue, but black is the dominant color seen by one's eye in person.
The original clock required the commissioning of 3 professionals; the carpenter, painter and clock professional who designed the clockworks, face and hands.
Any original clock works and pendulum remaining will be included with the long case but they are not in working condition. Many clients opt to add a battery function vs restoring the old works; we leave this to the discretion of buyer upon arrival.
The wood longcase is restored, solid and stable.
All scratches, cracks (see photos), dings, chips of missing paint on face, and age related separation (especially due to the curves and how this was crafted) are reflective of age and do not detract from the beauty of this lovely Mora grandfather clock.
Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting may all impact how item is viewed.
