I was told by the previous owner, who is an antique maritime collector, that the subject is a Scottish Sea Captain, and that he had the painting restored/conserved. Housed in a 19thC frame.

The frame measures 21” x 25”. The canvas was re-stretched and lined in a wax bath as part of the conservation. The period frame is unrestored and has veneer chips.
