This Really is a Very Nice Example of a Authentic Antique American Primitive Blue Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Approx 1870s - Early 1880s. It is Embossed with a Number 6 Confirming its Unusual Incremental 6 Quart or 1 1/2 Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Not Signed by the Maker but I Believe that it was Mostly Produced in New York, Vermont or Massachusetts. It has a Classic American Salt Glazed Exterior with a Sandy Greige Color. It is Rendered in Classic American Stoneware Form - Shape with the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". The Front of the Jar is Hand Decorated with a Blue Stylized Wildflower Design. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. This Jar Style was Commonly Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Foods. It is in Very Good Strong, Sound and Usable Original Condition - Displays Nicely. No Cracks - No Repairs. Imperfections Noted - It has Some Small Age and use Related Chips at the Top Rim Inner and Outer Perimeter.
