Hand-knotted in wool and originating circa 1910-1920, this 3x3 antique Persian Bidjar square rug is a rare new curation in the Rug & Kilim collection.
On the Design
Admirers of the craft will note an interesting stylistic variation from early 20th century design making it one of the most colorful works of Bidjar tribal provenance we have seen for sure, full of movement and the personal element that makes these nomadic boho chic/shabby chic rugs such rich works of folk art and rustic charm.
Keen eyes for detail may admire the rich and playful colors coming together in a series of stripes and geometric patterns in the field, surrounded by a border of floral patterns in a traditional scroll with primarily burgundy red undertones. The attention to detail in scale, texture and movement of color is matched only by its equally rare condition. This is an exemplary traditional piece, with more of a vibrance than many found in the modern day.
