An absolutely stunning diamond, pearl, and hessonite garnet pin from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This spectacular piece is crafted in 18k yellow gold and topped in sterling silver and forms the shape of a fabulous open shield motif with an ornate framework. In the center of the shield is a striking deep reddish-orange hessonite garnet, which was most likely mined in Ceylon, resting in a milgrained gold bezel setting alongside three bezel set pearls, which grace the top of the piece. Framing the center stone is a scrolling, floral framework holding 15 sparkling rose cut diamonds. An additional old mine cut diamond, which weighs approximately 0.40ct with F color and SI1 Clarity, with three rose cut diamonds flanking it. The sparkling diamonds rest in an open back setting, allowing the light to pass through and catch each facet beautifully with every turn. The pin is slightly curved inward, providing a subtle 3-dimensional design, and the base features gorgeous curved wirework, creating delicate cutouts that add a lovely feminine touch. Finishing the design is a pin stem and c-clasp on the back along with a simple hidden bail, allowing this stunning piece to be fastened to a favorite garment or added to a chain. This unique garnet pin would look stunning worn day or night and would make any collection complete!
Measurements: The pin measures slightly less than 1 1/8" wide, about 1 1/4" tall, and is approximately 1/2" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the pin is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the sterling and gold setting or to the diamond stones, all of which are intact. The bar pin and clasp are secure and in good working condition. less
