Created for comfortable conversation, it was showcased at the Salon d’Automne in Paris in 1929, serving as a prototype for modern furnishings, which its designers referred to as “household equipment.” The distinction between the metal frame and the cushions aligns with Rationalist principles, mirroring the industrial approach to production and echoing the architectural relationship between load-bearing structures and infill elements.

These models are also available in an eco-friendly version that honors the original design. Thanks to research by Cassina LAB—a collaboration between the Cassina Research and Development Center and the Poli.design consortium at Politecnico University in Milan—the foam filling, cushion padding, and tubular framework are made from sustainable materials and processes. Designed for ease of conversation, this armchair was first exhibited in 1929 at the Salon d’Automne in Paris as a hallmark of modern furnishings, interpreted by its creators as “household equipment.”
