The foliage decorated ormolu lid is topped by resting bee above an ovoid-shaped marble, flanked by vine and foliate handles, centred by lovebirds, all resting on an octagonal marble and gilt bronze base.
Ernest Sanglan is a French visual artist who was born in 19th century. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Poisson attrapé par une pieuvre' sold at Piasa 'Contemporary & Modern Art' in 2014.
