Lebegue Et Cie, Paris, France, which was a printing company established in the 19th century in Belgium and France. This particular globe appears to have been produced between 1885 and 1890 as it shows “Etat du Congo,” the Congo Free State that was established in 1885, but does not show Luxembourg, which became independent in 1890. The iron mount is a tripod – very sturdy. It shows three gentlemen sporting the handlebar mustaches that were common in the 19th century. The finial on top can be used to still the spinning of the globe on a certain area to be studied. This is an interesting item and a good conversation piece when looking for countries, states, and cities that have been given new names or boundaries over the past 133-139 years. It also shows steam navigation lines for steamships, undersea cables used for the telegraph, green for bodies of water, and parchment for land. less
