When it came into my possession it was in a sad state of affairs. The table was owned by a dear friend's grandmother, since deceased, and relegated to my friend's basement. Why? because the table had suffered a broken leg as many of these style tables had. Leg looseness had seen several "home remedies". Its Mahogany finish was checkered, chipped, scratched and stained. Its thick veneer was separating in spots, but I could see the potential in this once beautiful table. I took it home, then it ended up in our storage unit for some years. Several attempts were made to move it along it to friends and family, but no one was up for the transformation I had envisioned. So, here is my vision complete, some years later. It did turn out as beautiful as I had hoped. I elected to PAINT the base in the popular "Milk Finish" due to the many cracks and previous repairs to the legs as mentioned. One leg did have to receive a puttied repair due to missing wood. The top veneer sanded beautifully with only two small blemishes,
(Look carefully at the photos!) and I finished the top with MINWAX Oil Polyurethane. This is NOT STAINED, you are looking at the original Mahogany thick wood veneer color.

Now to the reasons why I LOVE THIS TABLE!

If you desire to own an excellent antique that is the Swiss Army Knife of tables, you should consider this one. With both leaves folded down the table measures 38" wide X 24" Wide. Perfect for two place settings fitting in a kitchen, condo, dorm room or placed behind a couch as a side table.

Company is coming over... What to do? No problem. Folding a single leaf changes this table from two to four persons, measuring 38' wide x 39" wide.

Still more guests? Add a single drop in 10" wide leaf.

No, still not right. Flip up the second drop leaf. The table now seats 6. Two on each side and one at each end. I imagine this is the configuration most used in a dedicated Dining Room. Measurements 38' wide x 54" long.

Table size open with one drop in leaf 38' wide x 63 1/2" long and with both drop in leaves 38" x 73 1/2" long or very suitable for EIGHT DINERS (8), unless you scootch two people on each end making it a TABLE FOR 10

I have tried to be transparent with my description of the Duncan Phyfe table, it's life and my restoration and its current flaws (minor). Our goal is to see this table back in use enjoying the chatter of family and friends' conversation.
