Dining table from the mid-century period in France made with a beautiful rosewood veneered top. There is a striking parquetry top with a chevron pattern. The design is outlined with a lemon wood inlay. The apron of the table has a stepped design. The four legs are tapered and squared. The legs are ebonized and capped with brass feet. The table has been finished with a lustrous French polish finish of museum-quality. The table is in excellent vintage condition – the photos accurately depict the condition.
Originating in the 1950s-1960s, the Mid-Century Modern movement was based on functionality, simplicity, and an organic elegance. Many designers of the period championed the concept that good design could be for everyone. The material itself was used to create the design and dynamic beauty of the piece instead of relying on decorative ornamentation. New technologies gave way to new materials, such as vinyl and resin. Many designers and critics regard the Mid-Century Modern design aesthetic as honest and appealing. These qualities have helped the pieces stay relevant in a quickly changing world. As an interior style, Mid-Century Modern highlights notions of functionality and modern ease. With its interesting shapes, clean proportions and eye-catching sugar-coated colors, the mid-century modern style has been described as ‘furniture candy’. less
