Comes … Read more A stunning full-color Ukiyo-E Hanga print after original woodblock print "A Walk at Night in Snow" by Kiyonaga (1752-1815). Comes from a rare Collection of 24 Masterpieces by Kiyonaga. Produced & published by Shuei-Sha, Tokyo, in July 1964. Printers: Toppan Printing Co., LTD. Printed on one side. Attached at the top to a board of heavy textured paper, covered with lighter sheet of paper for protection, numbered 9 on the label on the front of the cover. Excellent condition - minor edge wear on the board and cover, never framed, ready to be framed. Copy of the commentary by Dr. Kiyoshi Shibui (below) in Japanese and English is included.

Mimeguri is the location of a pleasure house from where this customer is returning accompanied by a geisha girl. The night is black though the now on the ground illuminates the way a little. Cold winds come from the direction of the river where some unseen boats were moored. He wears a lot of clothes, an overcoat on top of them, with muffler and a piece of cloth to hide his face. He is probably a well-known actor or some celebrity having a bit fun on his own. See less
