Abstract composition on purple, pink and white background important Italian artist Carol RAMA born Olga Carolina Rama (Turin 1918 – … more Abstract composition on purple, pink and white background important Italian artist Carol RAMA born Olga Carolina Rama (Turin 1918 – 2015) The great Italian public recognition came in 2003, when she was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale (where she had already exhibited in 1993). Exhibition opportunities multiply, from the 2004 anthology curated by Guido Curto and Giorgio Verzotti at the Sandretto Foundation in Turin (then at the Mart in Rovereto and at the Baltic Museum in Gateshead) to the 2008 exhibition in the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa curated by Marco Vallaro. Since 2009, the Isabella Bortolozzi gallery in Berlin has exhibited works by the artist and included her in the circuit of international collectors. His fame definitively crosses national borders with the large retrospective organized by the Macba of Barcelona and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (curated by Teresa Grandas and Beatriz Preciado), which, starting from Barcelona in 2014, will be in Paris in 2015 (directed by Anne Dressen) and subsequently in Helsinki and Dublin, to close the itinerary in 2016 at the Gam – Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Turin. The list of international admirers of the artist's work is expanding: since 2016 the Dominique Lévy (later Lévy Gorvy) gallery in New York has joined the Bortolozzi gallery in promoting Carol Rama. Similar trend also with regards to public spaces: the following year the New Museum in New York dedicated a large anthology to her commissioned by the director of the museum, Massimiliano Gioni and Palazzo Ca' nova in Venice hosted Carol Rama: Space even more than time . Unfortunately, the artist has not been able to enjoy this now acquired national and international notoriety. She passed away on 24 September 2015 in her home studio in Turin, where she lived continuously since the 1940s. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
