This fabulous large Chinese Export Dragon Lamp started life as a large urn or vase in the 19th Century. It was converted into a table lamp in the early 20th century. The unusual colors of burgundy and gold, along with white, beige, cream and several shades of blue, are placed in a mosaic style ribbon pattern, and pulls from multiple influences, including Greece and India with the leaves, curly-cues and floral patterns.
The brass lamp sectioned post has two bulb fixtures with a chain pull. The lamp base is brass plated guilloche embossed metal, probably zinc, with a pierced ring and stepped filigree collar holding the porcelain tightly to the base.
There are no chips or cracks, although there are some tiny signs of pitting in the glaze around the dragon’s mouth visible upon very close inspection. There is a maker’s mark on the bottom of the porcelain.
This is a truly unique lamp. It works well and is ready for your specially selected lampshade to finish it properly!
Porcelain vase is 21” tall, 9” wide at center. Total height from brass base to top finial is 36”. less
